We are a non-profit foundation determined to empower survivors to rediscover the power in their voices
The inspiration behind WomenSpeak foundation Incorporated was the result of witnessing firsthand
(both professionally and personally) the devastating psychological and physiological effects of violence on
survivors over the last 20 years. While psychopharmaceutical interventions were opted to abate the effects
of this horrific trauma, they only offered an ephemeral solution; these treatments only addressed
presenting trauma-related systems, while ignoring etiology. In addition to medicinal treatments,
traditional talk therapies appeared to exacerbate symptoms for some survivors which may play a significant
role in re-traumatization. These treatment experiences did not decrease chronic treatment recidivism;
instead it created an attitude of antipathy in many survivors.
Many survivors often remain silent regarding their experiences, while some individuals feel a sense of shame and isolation and powerlessness. The WSFI strives to create a network of women who are survivors of violence so that they can reach out in support of each other in their continued recovery.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
